For this blog post I’m going to look at the advantages and disadvantages of travelling solo. Deciding to head off on that adventure on your lonesome can be a daunting prospect but one that can pay off huge dividends!
You can go where you want to go
There is no compromise on what places you can and cannot visit. If you budget correctly then you can fit in all the destinations on that bucket-list.
You can amend plans
If you arrive somewhere and you want to stay longer then there are no issues with having to OK it with your travel buddy. Likewise if you have seen all you want to see of a destination and you want to move on sooner than planned it’s all good just as long as your onward flights or other method of transport allows.
Meet people and ditch people
Travelling on your own allows you to meet other travellers easier, there isn’t that issue of other travellers thinking you’re a couple or a close-knit group if they see you’re already travelling with someone else. There is also no pressure to continue travelling with someone you’ve met, you can simply part-ways and continue off on your different itineraries.
We feel most alive and learn the most (in my opinion) when we are out of our comfort zone. It forces us to think on our feet, develop as a person and learn how to deal with different situations, just make sure you don’t put yourself in any unnecessary danger!
Get to know yourself
Travel gives you the opportunity to step aside from ‘normal life’ and really learn about yourself. There are no daily pressures of heading to work and getting lost in a 9-5. Enjoy and treasure this time as you’ll miss it once you’re back home.
Meet the locals
As you travel you’ll meet and interact with many different people and doing this on your own gives you a great chance to do this on a one-to-one basis. You’ll get to chat to local business owners, tour guides and families, you might even get the chance to stay with a local family and really live as the locals do!
Whilst solo travel can be a challenge its also a great way to see the world! If you decide to travel this way then plan ahead and enjoy your time away.
Happy and safe travels!
